Family Foundations Workshop

Powered by Mountainside Treatment Center

When a loved one struggles with substance use, every member of the family is impacted. Emotions become heavier, communication gets harder, and even daily life can feel unpredictable. Families often want to help but aren’t sure where to begin.

The Family Foundations Workshop offers tailored support for your family, giving you a focused space to learn, reflect, and build healthier patterns together.

Over seven virtual sessions, your family is guided through a personalized plan that meets you where you are and adapts to the realities of your daily life. With the support of a Mountainside family clinician, you’ll explore what you’re dealing with, what you’re hoping for, and what might help make life feel a little more manageable. This non-clinical offering requires no insurance, and is open to any family seeking compassionate, individualized support.

Inside the Family Foundations Workshop

  • Seven Weeks of Individualized Guidance

A private, seven-session workshop led by a Mountainside family clinician. Each week builds on the last, creating a thoughtful, structured experience tailored to your family’s needs.

  • Fully Virtual Format

All sessions take place online, making it easy for your family to join from home and participate in a space that feels private, comfortable, and accessible.

  • Practical Strategies for Long-Term Stability

Learn approaches that help your family stay grounded, communicate more clearly, and maintain progress well beyond the seven weeks.

  • BONUS: Additional Family Recovery Coaching Support

Family Recovery Coaching calls are available between sessions if your family needs additional guidance and support as you move through the program.

Weekly Focus Areas

  • During week 1, we’ll help you understand addiction through a new lens. You’ll learn how addiction affects the brain and behavior, and why it’s recognized as a chronic (but treatable) condition. We’ll also explore how addiction influences family systems and relationships, helping you replace judgment or confusion with empathy and insight.

Initial Session: Before the series begins, each family joins a one-on-one Welcome Session to connect with their facilitator, share their story, and set intentions for the weeks ahead. This session helps us get to know your unique situation, answer any questions, and ensure you feel supported from day one.

  • Week 2 focuses on building healthier communication patterns that reduce conflict and increase connection. You’ll learn tools to express yourself clearly and calmly—even during emotional or high-stress moments—and how to listen in a way that encourages trust and openness.

  • Boundaries are not about punishment. They’re about protection, respect, and clarity. Week 3 will help you define and set boundaries that support your loved one’s recovery and your own well-being. You’ll learn to recognize the difference between helping and enabling, and how to say “yes” and “no” with confidence and care.

  • Living alongside addiction often comes with years of stress, trauma, and emotional strain. Week 4 focuses on your emotional wellness. We’ll guide you through recognizing how addiction has impacted you, and introduce ways to begin healing, managing anxiety, and regaining your sense of self.

  • Week 5 focuses on empowerment. Families often feel responsible for their loved one’s recovery, but that pressure can lead to guilt, frustration, and burnout. You’ll learn what’s truly within your control (and what’s not), how to stop carrying the weight of someone else’s choices, and how to redirect that energy into your own healing.

  • When treatment ends, real life begins—and families often feel unsure about how to support their loved one without going back to old patterns. Week 6 prepares you for that transition. You’ll learn practical tools for managing expectations, fostering accountability, and creating a home environment that supports recovery without enabling.

  • The final week focuses on long-term growth: both as individuals and as a family unit. You’ll revisit your progress, build a family wellness plan, and learn how to maintain healthy dynamics over time. We’ll also share resources for continued support so you know you're never alone, even after the program ends.
